The Alabama Power Service Organization’s Magic City Chapter and Power Delivery employees teed up another major win for the community at the 35th annual Angel Tree Golf Tournament, raising $100,000 to help provide Christmas gifts for Salvation Army Angels.
Held at Oxmoor Valley Country Club, the tournament brought together 72 teams for a day of competition, fellowship and giving back. Behind the scenes, the 10-member APSO Magic City planning committee volunteered countless hours to ensure the 6.5-hour event ran smoothly and safely.
Tyler Hamm, assistant to the vice president of Technical Support System Engineering, served as tournament chair, while Transmission Engineering Manager Gary Gorham was executive sponsor. Tournament co-chair Clayton Bowden said the event continues to showcase the generosity and community spirit of Alabama Power and Southern Company Services employees.
“The tournament gave me the opportunity to volunteer,” said Bowden, Power Delivery engineer in Birmingham Support - Trussville Crew Headquarters/Pelham. “All of us were glad for a chance to help in a really good cause.”
Bowden joined the APSO Magic City Chapter in 2022 and became part of the tournament planning committee this year after increasing his involvement over time.
The impact of the fundraiser will continue into the holiday season. In November, dozens of APSO Magic City volunteers will head to Walmart to shop for children’s Christmas wish lists through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. Additional support will come from Power Delivery’s 23rd annual Clay Shoot fundraiser, held Sept. 3 at Selwood Farms.
Employees across the company play an important role in supporting the tournament year after year.
“I have been involved with the tournament for many years and I’m so proud of what we do to support such a worthy cause,” said Cindy Ledbetter, contracts agent in Supply Chain Management – PD Category Management and Transactions.
